Broken Hills (Megamod)

Arroyo (Megamod)

Now, when talking to Clint, or even just approaching him (after the Trial), you have the option to recruit him. You must do so during the first conversation with him, as if you decline, the option will disappear on your second attempt. He can join at any time, regardless of the main character's Charisma or the number of NPCs in the party. Almost a complete analogue of Sulik (6/3/5, i.e. the first upgrade is at the 6th level of the main character, after three levels, a total of 5 upgrades (6, if the corresponding fix is activated in sFall); secondary specialization is "Heavy" instead of "Light", but this is useless, since there is no corresponding animation and Clint simply cannot equip a heavy weapon. Worse Perception (i.e. turn order and accuracy), and otherwise - everything is like Sulik: PP (10 mm, P90, "griz gun" .45, G11 (4.7 mm); 14 mm pistol, 0.223 pistol).

Sharpen the spear.

Ask the warrior Minok (the guard by the bridge) to sharpen your spear. You'll need to find some flint. Ask Slick nearby, and he'll tell you to get some from Auntie Morlis. Auntie will exchange the flint for a cooking pot, which can be found in a chest in the Elder's hut or purchased from Slick. 50xp. If you ask him to sharpen more than one spear, on the third, Minok will offer to teach you how to do it yourself. Requirements: Cold Arms and Throwing Weapons 40%+. Sharpening spears for sale is pointless; the difference is only $20.

Become a shaman.

Hakunin will direct you to this path if you haven't chosen the Warrior path (see Becoming a Warrior). Use the powder he gave you on the carnivorous plants in his garden (don't cut the stems with it—that's the warrior's path!). Thorns (4 per bush) can be collected (by offering) and then used in recipes. Tell the old man you want to learn from him, then listen to his lecture. "Doctor" and "Science" each give +4%, +100 XP. When he has nothing more to say, go to Slick.

Listen to Slick's stories (until the end), and the Shack will appear on the world map, northwest of Klamath. Talk to the man locked in the back of the shack to get the key to the door. Then save him from his sick dog (kill him, of course). This good deed will give you 200xp and a free fortune telling (a reference to F1). If you have enough Charisma (6 or more), Slick can level up your Barter skill (see below).

You need to return to Arroyo by August 5th, having completed a couple of good deeds in Klamath or the Shack (Karma at least 30, aura shining like the full moon). If you don't rush through the mountains, but rather walk through the wasteland, then the time is just right: arrive in Klamath during the day, complete the gardener's quest, clear the sewers, or, if you don't want to linger, simply complete the Pugilism training with John Sullivan (the Karma increase is enough to become a shaman). But generally speaking, taking out the Rat in the sewers (50 Karma) will be enough. Completing the quest will reward you with 300 XP, the Shaman perk: mortar and pipe, and the ability to craft certain items (antidote, joint (temporary +1 to Perception, +1 to Intelligence, +3 to Critical Chance), suomi (temporary +1 Endurance, +10 DR), shaman's potion (temporary +2 Strength, -4 Intelligence, -2 to turn order), healing powder, poisonous substance, and poisoning the blades of knives, throwing knives, and simple spears). After the Ritual, Hakunin can increase his skills: Science +6%, Wanderer +6%, or Doctor +6%, depending on whether you want to improve your understanding of mystical foundations, worldly problems, or learn to heal wounds). All potion recipes require 20% First Aid. You can throw away the pipe immediately; it's unusable for now.

Become a warrior

Lucas gives you 12 days to bring him 3 golden gecko pelts. 400 XP. Female characters cannot become warriors—emancipation hasn't reached Arroyo. After reaching Klamath and freeing the trapper Smiley from the Toxic Caves, you'll learn how to skin and use the skill at the Hunting Grounds in Klamath. "No freebies!"—only skins you HAVE PELT YOURSELF will count; you can't buy them from vendors. The perk bonus is skinning rats and a small additional drop from critters (like a tooth necklace from a gecko, etc.). Lucas can also increase your Melee or Melee skills by 4% if they fall within the 50-90% range. If your skills are lower, he'll refuse to train you due to your utter incompetence. If higher, then "...I have nothing to teach you!" For the "Melee Weapons" skill, you need to equip the Sharpened Spear it gives (if you already have one, use it, as it won't give you any more) before it starts.

Training with Jordan

Watch Jordan skin the gecko (don't wait too long, the gecko's corpse will disappear over time), ask if he can teach you how to catch geckos and tell you about the Wasteland. Return when you have a sharpened spear. Choose between +4% for either "Traps" or "Scout," as he only needs one spear. You can't leave Arroyo's territory, otherwise he'll find the spear without you.

If you have a high Traps or Wanderer skill, you can share your knowledge with Jordan in exchange for two gecko skins. You can also just steal them.

Picture

Slick can increase your "Merchant" skills (randomly from 10 to 20) if you ask him all the available trade questions, your Charisma will be higher than 6, and you can solve the weighing puzzle. He also sells a book for leveling up the "Scout" skill.

Slick's Test:  An old weighing problem: There are three bags of coins, one of which contains counterfeit coins. A real coin weighs 3g. A counterfeit coin weighs 2g. You need to determine which bag contains the counterfeit coins in one weighing. Take 1 coin from the first bag, 2 from the second, and 3 from the third. Subtract the resulting weight from 18 (six real coins weigh 6 x 3 = 18). The answer is: 1 is the first bag, 2 is the second, and 3 is the third.

Save the harvest in Arroyo

Bring the "AFR" poison from Klamath (in the Rat Tunnels) and give it to the Elder. Torn packets won't do; two whole 15-pound packets are in the metal cabinet in front of the Rat's nest. 60xp if you also gathered useful information about the wasteland, 55xp if you don't have any useful information. There's a time limit on this quest; if you delay, Arroyo will starve to death and the game will end!

Prove that the test in the Temple was passed fairly.

When you return to Arroyo, a nasty rumor will circulate around the village that you cheated during the Temple trial. Talk to everyone to determine who started these rumors. Simply "crack" Aunt Morlis and tell her you know who it was. After that, you'll need to talk to Jordan (the Sly Fox). You can:

  • Kill the Sly Fox, +80xp.
  • Kill him in a fair fight (knife dance), +150xp.
  • Clear your name, +150xp.

Everything else is unchanged. The only other quests that remain are "Find the Dog" and "Fix the Well." However, random drops (in early versions of MM) sometimes yield phenomenal items: a Sphere, a Buffut, a Mentat, a Mk.2 leather jacket with +6 physical damage absorption, ammo, microreactors, and so on. So it's a good idea to check all the shelves and pots! If you want to ease into the game, you can save before leaving the Temple. Treats are generated when you first enter the village map.
