Diablo 2 Walkthrough -> Druid
Leveling a Druid in Diablo 2The Druid is a character for those who don't like to rush or overestimate their own strength. This leisurely bear-shaped lout with an army of four-legged helpers is a sort of middle ground between the Barbarian, with his extraordinary strength, and the Necromancer, with his ability to summon numerous bodyguards. This forest Tarzan has three main schools of skills:Elemental is a school of elemental magic: fire and wind. Overall, the school represents a cross between the skills of a mage and a necromancer.
However, a druid doesn't have enough mana to hurl lava at every jerboa they encounter, and besides, all these flashy magical gadgets really slow down online combat (it's a proven fact—don't even think about arguing!) Not the best choice, in short.
Shape Shifting —now that's something much more interesting. Besides the shaggy man's appearance, this school of skills allows the druid to transform into an upright wolf or a giant grizzly bear.
Both forms have their pros and cons, but the wolf flaps its paws significantly faster and, even in its early stages, can replenish life by draining its victims' life force. A properly trained bear, on the other hand, becomes a walking tank. Standard HP is doubled, and its stunning attacks are a great aid against overly agile bosses.
Summoning is also a very advanced school. Like the Necromancer, the Druid can summon minions, but firstly, they don't require corpses for summoning, and secondly, they can only summon one type of creature at a time, so think ahead about which creatures you'll be focusing on.
Tips for leveling up
Elemental is too ineffective in the hands of a Druid, so I immediately decided to level up Werewolf Druid... and I was right. The recipe for success is simple: suffer through all sorts of minor damage until level six, but then, in one fell swoop, invest a couple of points into Werebear, one into Lycanthropy, one into Raven (for the sake of appearances), and another into Spirit Wolf.
A stunning effect—for just 15 mana, we get a bear that can take down almost any enemy in Act 1 with one blow, while its life is more than doubled, and the wolf cubs are indispensable for dealing with numerous, but frail, enemies.
The tactics are simple: choose a fat target, fight our way through hordes of petty minions, and kill them with one hand. Deprived of backup, the little devils quickly die in the jaws of our four-legged helpers.
Another tip: in bear form, your TOTAL HP is doubled, not your current HP. With a smart approach to battles, you can completely avoid the hassle of using healing bottles: the secret is that even if your bear's health is knocked down to half, when you return to human form, the health bottle is fully refilled! It's not hard to guess that, with the Werebear sorcerer again, we'll get a fresh and unworn Potapych.
Until around level 18, it's recommended to continue leveling up all three of these skills. However, when the real monsters start to appear, Spirit Wolves will be, to put it mildly, out of work, so you'll have to quickly retrain for Dire Wolves, which, in addition to their combat advantages, can also eat enemy corpses to restore health.
Unfortunately, when using the free health secret when shapeshifting, some of the Druid's Shifting abilities are left out: you'll definitely never need the vampiric Feral Rage, or the combat perversions of Maul, Rabies, or Fire Claws. It's much more convenient to spend those same points on your summoning four-legged friends.
