Fallout 2 Walkthrough → Highwayman
The first and second parts are installed by a mechanic in Dyra (Dene). You need to pay 2,000 rubles for the car:
1 - Controller . Reduces fuel consumption. Found in a dismantled Himevan in Klamath . You need to take the "Kill all the rats" quest and go through the dungeon to find the rat god. After killing him, continue on to the stairs and, once above ground, inspect all the cars. The controller is in one of them.
2 - Engine . So the car can even run. A dead guy in Gecko north of Vault City will give you this. You need to give him a super repair kit. You can get the kit from Valerie, Vic's daughter, in Vault 8. She'll give you several kits for common tools: a wrench (in a pile of rocks right behind Cassidy's bar) and pliers (you should already have them). Just bring the kit, get the engine, pay the mechanic, and get behind the wheel of your vacuum cleaner.
3 - Claudia . The car will run like crazy and use even less fuel. A homeless guy in the NCR will give it to you for 1000 rubles . He's sitting in a junkyard, selling info and junk.
4 - Trunk expansion . To increase the car's capacity (it initially fits 250, and with the upgrade, 500). When you first arrive in New Reno , make sure there's nothing useful in the trunk, as it will all be lost when you leave to run errands. Upon returning, you'll find the car gone. Press the guy who's always hanging around the parking lot. He'll crack and tell you where the car is.
We're going to rescue our vacuum cleaner. We get there and see that the car has been privatized by a gang of "mechanics." We pay the boss some money. He's the one who expands your trunk. Now it's up to you: leave the would-be mechanics and go, or teach them a lesson so they don't do it again.
5 - Levitation Boards . The machine will no longer run, but fly, and how! Can only be installed after the Enclave tower is destroyed. The next mechanic will install it. But you'll have to find it yourself. Good luck!
How do you refuel the car?
The Highwayman is powered by atomic batteries. But it's not so easy to figure out what to do to charge it. Here are the steps:
1) Hover over the car (a hand will appear).
2) Left-click and hold – an action menu will appear.
3) Select the backpack emblem from the menu and click on it.
4) In the window that opens, you'll see your items; select the batteries.
5) Click on the batteries and hold the left mouse button again.
6) In the menu that appears, select the open hand emblem and click on it. The car is now fueled.
Information from the PiP drives is read in the same way, and other similar actions are performed (connecting to computers, planting dynamite on a cart to infiltrate a military base, etc.).
It's strange, but for some reason the authors of numerous walkthroughs never devote a single line to this control, and it's not always easy to figure out (personally, when the car ran out of fuel, I wandered around on foot for a long time until I learned this through experimentation, and how much time was lost and how much useful action was not performed).
