Chapter 5. We've Got Hostiles! [Black Mesa]
To get through the closed doors, break the glass on the panel to the right and press the red button.
The thin red lasers are harmless, but they activate the nearby machine gun turrets. Quickly run into the room and hide from the turret behind the column. Shoot the explosive crate to the right; this will cause the turret to fall and stop working.
Blue laser turrets explode if you touch the beam. But, unlike red lasers, they can be destroyed with long-range shots. Destroy the two such beams in front of you. Continue on.
There's a stationary first aid kit in the cafeteria's corner to the right. Descend the stairs and fight the Vortigaunts. Shoot the flammable barrel next to the turrets to destroy them, then fight off three more Vortigaunts. Climb the boxes to the other side of the room.
We carry one turret in our hands and knock over all the others with shots or thrown objects. Two turrets standing around the corner, next to a slippery floor, can be easily knocked down with a couple of shots through the mesh, to the right of the crate. Then we painlessly pass through all the red lasers.
After passing through more doors with fire buttons, you can see G-Man in the distance, standing on the third floor.
We shoot the blue laser from afar. We restore health at the stationary first aid kit on the right. We move on, kill the first soldier and take his MP5 assault rifle. (The soldiers shoot all the scientists, including us. It’s unclear what their motives are, but there’s no time to figure it out; we need to kill them first to survive.) Next to the assault rifle, behind a wooden crate, are two grenades. We take the elevator up.
5.2. Meeting with the Military
In the first room, we destroy three soldiers, restore our health and energy, and continue along the bridge with the barnacle monsters. We destroy the blue lasers from afar and drag the turret next to the red lasers back to safety. After that, we crawl between the red lasers and quickly knock out the remaining two turrets nearby with a blue laser explosion. We move on.
In a large multi-story room, the soldiers will shoot at us from above. This is a very awkward place for a firefight. We turn around and climb up the conveyor belt. On the conveyor belt, we destroy the laser from afar, kill one of the soldiers, and recover from the stationary first aid kit. We return back for the saved turret, pick it up, and carry it forward into the large multi-story room. We place it in the center of the first floor and run for cover behind the containers. It can easily shoot a couple of soldiers, and we shoot the rest from afar. In total, we need to kill six soldiers here. At the very top, in the "Control Room," we restore our health from the stationary first aid kit. We move forward across the bridge.
On the other side of the bridge is the same multi-story structure, four more soldiers to kill, and another stationary first aid kit. We descend a little lower, enter the elevator, and finally rise to the surface.
5.3. On the surface
The elevator takes us to one of the military hangars. It's already quite hot on the surface of Black Mesa: there's no one inside, but outside there's a ton of soldiers, plus a gunship circling in the sky, dropping bombs on the ground. Outside, we kill a few soldiers (not necessarily all of them) and quickly dash into the bunker located behind the truck.
We go down the stairs; it's a little quieter here. We knock out the ventilation grate and use it to kill a couple of special forces soldiers who have descended into the elevator shaft. In the shaft, we carefully descend, kill a couple more special forces soldiers, and climb into the lower ventilation pipe.
We enter an empty room through the ventilation. We move forward and fight off headcrabs. We move through the corridors and vents, and eventually we reach a security post, where one scientist remains alive. We listen to him until he opens the doors to the "SILO D," grab the lying shotgun, recharge at the stationary first aid kit, and continue through the open door to the Testing Grounds .
