Half-Life: Alex | Chapter 7: Jeff
You begin the chapter having just moved into the vodka distillery on your way to the Vault.
If you carried the bottle of vodka with you until the end of Chapter 7, you will receive the Team Spirit achievement.
In the first room, move forward and jump over the barrels to your left. Teleport to the opposite side and drop to the floor. You'll find some Resin on a shelf nearby. In the next room, you'll find some Resin in one of the overturned yellow barrels and a large shield blocking your path. Turn right into the cluster of Xen spores.
If you enter into arguments without a respirator mask or with your hand over your mouth, Alix will cough loudly, attracting unwanted attention.
On the opposite side of this spore cloud is the dining room. If you jump under the Xen coral blocking the next door, you'll find a yellow crate with some Resin inside. Return to the dining room. Inside the adjacent yellow crate, leaning against a pillar, is a pistol magazine. There's some Resin behind the bar. Go to the end of the dining room and up the stairs leading down to the courtyard. The Resin is under the stairs.
Go through the next door and you'll hear a man muttering. Jump down, then make your way through some xen coral to a ladder. In the next room, you'll find a guy named Larry trapped in a cage. Kill the sucker to free Larry, and he'll tell you all about Jeff before sending you on your way.
Jeff, by the way, is a colossal two-headed zombie who's impossible to kill by conventional means. More on Jeff later. For now, go down the ladder and grab the nearby Resin, then go down another ladder and up it to reach the next platform. From here, turn around and you'll see the Resin hanging on the coral nearby.
Teleport to the next platform, and Larry will warn you that Jeff is lurking below. Teleport to the next door, go inside, and you'll find yourself in a tiny room. Look on the ground to find a box of resin. Exit the closet, then teleport again to the door on the far side of the opening. Click on it, then go inside.
Talk to Larry again, then drop down through the cloud of xen spores below. Ahead of you should be a yellow crate with some resin inside. Turn around, jump over the barrier, and go through the door at the end of the corridor.
Go over the railing, kill the sucker, and open the next yellow cage to find some resin. Hold your hand in front of your mouth, release the nearby door, and proceed into the next spore-filled corridor. You can find some resin in the nearby locker.
Again, cover your mouth if you don't have a respirator mask! Alix's coughing won't distract Jeff in the next section.
When you're ready, open the garage door at the end of the hallway with both hands and prepare to face Jeff. Jeff won't see anything, but he'll immediately rush to the last place he heard a sound. You need to remain silent. Shooting and killing him is impossible, so move back into the hallway and take the first left. There should be a space you can crawl through. Grab the nearby bottle and throw it across from where you're about to move, then crawl through and sneak past Jeff.
Teleportation is the best way to quickly and efficiently navigate this area, so remember to teleport away from Jeff when you dodge. Head through the door you just opened and onto the nearby crate (to your right) as you enter the main area.
You'll need to remember the spots that are filled with bottles; they make the loudest noise when thrown, making them your secret weapon in distracting Jeff throughout this section.
Jump down and head to the room with the wheel inside. Quickly check the freezer and grab the resin inside, then return to the wheel. Then, create enough noise to attract Jeff into the room. Once Jeff is lured into the freezer, close the door and lock it.
Now turn the wheel until it fully opens the garage door. Press the red button inside the room, which is now open to you. The power will go out soon. Nearby is an electrical cabinet with conduit that can be rewired with a multi-tool. Before you start wiring, now is a good time to grab two more resins—one is in the hole in the wall to the left of the garage door, and the other is on a shelf in the next room.
Finding the reconnection connections in the wall should be easy if you run your multi-tool along the wall as you move outward from the electrical locker. The only problem is that you'll eventually need to unlock the freezer to make the final connection to restore power to the elevator. When you're ready, unlock Jeff's temporary prison cell and be ready to distract him again.
Inside the freezer, the first time you turn the junction, a loudspeaker will turn on. Quickly turn the junction again, throw the bottle away from you in the opposite direction, and continue aiming your multi-tool along the wall until you complete the circuit. Crawl into the elevator to find another sensor and start the circuit. Follow the power line to the other end of the elevator and complete the circuit, turning the elevator back on and trapping Jeff inside with you.
Follow Jeff and press the red button to start the elevator. Hide in the corner, then slip through the open door once the elevator reaches its destination. Make your way between the crates, throwing bottles into the next room, then cross the wooden planks to the catwalk outside.
Jeff will be standing behind you, so don't wait to go through the next door you see. In the next hallway, turn left through the pile of debris, then climb up. Cross the wooden plank to the opposite side, then drop down and collect two Resins from the yellow crate.
Turn around and look down and to the right. You should see a large hole in the wall with a coral xen structure inside. Go through it. Break through the swellings, then drop down to the vodka tank below. Exit to the next catwalk.
At this point, you'll need to collect three batteries, which you'll use to open the giant arched door. There are two Resins here, one outside and one inside the yellow crate with a dead crab inside. When you're ready to meet Jeff again and get the batteries, climb back up the walkway and shoot the lock on the next door, then descend back into the distillery.
Before looking for batteries, it's worth going into the side room ahead and to the right. On the wall to the right is a red crate containing a respirator mask, which can help you through this part of the game. There's also one Resin and plenty of ammo in this room, so it's worth returning after Jeff is taken care of.
The first battery is located behind a wheel-operated gate. You can see the battery behind the gate. You'll need to carefully slide a piece of rebar through the wheel as you guide it into the slot. After inserting it, turn it just enough to open the door slightly. If you did everything correctly, the battery will fly out and fall on the floor, where you can pick it up. While you're there, you can find some resin in the blue crate to your right.
The next two batteries are in holes in the wall, with light shining through them. The best way to get each battery in one go is to throw them down the ladder onto the catwalk. Lowering the ladder will make a loud noise, so do it quickly and climb back up. Then turn around and use the Gravity Gloves to pull each battery out of its safe position.
Insert each battery into its slot, then attempt to open the vaulted door by pulling the handle to the left of the machine. Your attempt will fail and make a loud noise, prompting Jeff to burst through the metal doors to your left. This is your last time dealing with Jeff! Distract him so you can enter the room he just exited. Open the yellow crate to find some resin and numerous bottles.
Throw the bottle and lift the handle on the door to activate the machine. Press the big red button and say goodbye to Jeff.
After the trash compactor is finished, take a look inside to see the fruits of your labor. Then, walk around the trash compactor to find the resin in the wooden box.
To open the vaulted door from the outside, pull the handles in the correct order. Each time you pull a handle, a timer starts, so you'll have to pull them in the correct order before the timer runs out, or simply start over:
Now jump into the newly opened tunnel.
We find ourselves in a pre-war zoo.
