Chapter 9: Revelations [Half-Life: Alyx]

Half-Life: Alex  | Chapter 9: Revelations

You're now very close to the Vault, and you only have a few stops along the way.

When you start, you'll find yourself in a room with a ladder and some ammo scattered on the ground. Pick it up and begin climbing. At the top of the ladder, you'll find a Combine soldier guarding the gate from the bridge. Take him out and climb to the top of the bridge. Once there, watch the scene unfold, then use your multi-tool to press the sensor controlling the gate. Once the gate lowers, jump off the bridge and continue forward.

You'll soon find yourself confronted by a swarm of ants. Move around the area and take cover behind a nearby vehicle, as the fighting will shift to you, and a squad of Combine soldiers will emerge from the building ahead.

Proceed through the alley. Grab the Resin and the Health Syringe from the nearby basket, then open another basket to find a pistol magazine. Enter the barn to stumble upon someone talking. Climb the stairs in front of you, collecting ammo along the way.

Move into the elevator shaft and climb the ladder. Use your flashlight to create a clear path, sneak between the walls, and approach the voice. You'll hear someone talking about a prisoner in the Vault.

A Combine patrol will pass you. Start shooting, and you'll notice an explosion, opening a path for you. Deal with the Combine soldiers and search for healing syringes and grenades. You'll also find a medical station, a grub, shotgun shells, and an ammo box on the opposite side of the room. Once you feel ready, jump through the half-open elevator door to the platforms below.

Crawl through the corridors of destroyed rooms and Xen infestations. You'll find plenty of clips and shotgun shells lying on shelves as you move, so be alert and keep collecting as many as you can. Eventually, you'll come to a door where you'll need to pry open the boards to get through. Before you do, turn around and enter a room that looks like someone's personal hideout. Inside, you'll find three Resins, a healing syringe, and a bunch of shotgun shells.

Go through the boarded-up door and kill the suckers blocking your exit. You'll also find a zombie standing near you, so it's worth killing it before jumping down. There's also some Resin near the zombie. There's another Resin in the dumpster next to the fence. Once you're on the ground, go through the broken fence and teleport to the toilet below.

Here you'll encounter blue ants for the first time, which will shoot at you from a distance. Aim for their legs and abdomen as you would regular ants, but be sure to take cover when they attack.

You'll find a yellow crate of resin in the nearby exhaust pipe. Continue along until you find an elevator controlled by a lever. Shoot the bubble on the side of the elevator, then pull the lever down until you can teleport onto the elevator. Turn around and grab the resin from under the platform as the elevator ascends.

Teleport to the walkway and left to find two Resins in a nearby yellow barrel. Cross back through the passage and teleport to the pipeline that runs along the railing on the next platform. Follow the path forward, where the stairs rise from the lower level, then simply teleport to the next platform. Heal up at the medical station if you need to, but be prepared for a fight. A Combine squad is right around the corner, and they won't be waiting for you to come to them.

Kill them, then continue down the platform to a small room with a locked container. Open the container to get some pistol magazines, then turn around and climb the stairs to the next floor. As you exit the stairs, three blue ants will start spitting at you from the building across the street. To your left is an open container with SMG ammo and grenades. You have enough grenades to kill the ants if you throw them accurately. Otherwise, shoot them from a distance. Beware of the zombie that will attempt a melee attack.

Go to the wheel that will create a bridge you can cross. Turn it until you can reach the other building, then turn around or teleport inside. On the left side of the building, you'll find several crates containing a healing syringe, some resin, and some ammo.

The right side of the building taunts you with a tar you can't reach and an elevator shaft with a ladder leading to the floor below. Once there, you'll find a room filled with explosives. Release the lock on the ceiling latch, and the tar will fall to the ground. If you really want to get the tar, stick your hand between the two mine lasers and try to toss it toward you without triggering the explosives.

When you're ready to move on, climb the stairs. Now that the latch on the ceiling is open, you can shoot the explosives from the upper floor.

Jump down the ladder and turn left. Grab the Resin from the windowsill, then grab the Battery hanging on the bottom drawer of the desk. Some zombies and armored headcrabs will try to sneak up on you from behind, so be prepared to take them out quickly.

At the bottom of the steps, you'll find a medical station. Turn right and you'll see a pair of suckers, one of which is holding onto a larva. Kill them and insert the larva into the medical station if you need to heal. There's also some Resin in a box on the floor. Insert the battery into the slot and enter the next room when you're ready.

In the next room, you'll find a weapon upgrade station, as well as some resin on the shelf above it. Take the resin and solve the weapon upgrade station puzzle as follows:

When you're ready, climb the steps where you killed the suckers earlier and open the door to continue your journey. Follow the corridor to the right, then jump down as soon as you can. In the next section, you'll climb one of several lanes when you'll be attacked by ants. Luckily, there are ammo boxes and explosive barrels at the top and bottom of each lane, so you can use them to your advantage as needed.

When you're ready to move on, head to the sealed door with the number "6" to the left. There's a sensor next to it that, when activated with the multi-tool, triggers another puzzle. This one is tricky because you need to power each of the three nodes on the door—but not all at once. When a node loses power, it starts a countdown timer during which others can still be activated.

You need to set up the power lines so that when one power line switches, you have enough time to activate the others and solve the puzzle. Here are some screenshots illustrating how you should set them up.

Once you solve the puzzle, the chapter ends and  Chapter 10: Breaking and Entering begins.
