Human Error is a modification for Half-Life 2: Episode Two. Several installments were planned, but the second episode was canceled in favor of another mod, From Earth.
Plot:
The protagonist, Anders, and his wife, Olivia, arrive at a hill. Upon arrival, Olivia asks him to take a few photos for their future children. However, a few minutes into the game, a portal storm occurs, and huge rocks fall from the sky. After this, Anders awakens.
It turns out that Anders is a member of the Civil Defense. One of the Civil Defense officers, Eloise, tells Anders that the base has been attacked by Resistance troops and Vortigaunts. After defending the base, Eloise gives Anders an armored personnel carrier and orders him to move to the territory of the former university (the current Civil Defense base, which has been captured by the Resistance).
Anders fights his way to the university. There, he receives orders to purge the system of the Resistance virus. To do this, he escorts a stalker to the central computer, who eliminates the virus, and the system is returned to the Combine. Anders and his reinforcements then recapture one of the Civil Defense outposts. After opening the armored door, a portal storm emerges from the cave that was blocked by the doors. Anderson and all the Civil Defense soldiers lose consciousness. The last thing Anders sees is Olivia, who has appeared throughout the mod.
The mod's final minutes are spent in Anders's memories. The events take place after the Combine has captured the planet. Civil Defense forces have come for Olivia. She reflects on what Anders did (exactly what is unknown). One of the Civil Defense employees enters Olivia's room and closes the door. Anders leaves the apartment, and the mod ends.
Gameplay:
As one of the Civil Defense employees, you can pass through Combine force fields, and turrets cannot harm you. However, there are generators hacked by the Resistance that make the force fields impassable and the turrets hostile. Generators can be disabled using Manhacks, but if Vortigaunts are nearby, they can reactivate them.
Manhacks can now be controlled using a special device. Manhacks can break ventilation grilles, kill headcrabs, and, as mentioned above, disable hacked generators. Manhacks also have a range (you can't fly too far).
The stun baton is powered by batteries. When charged, the baton deals significantly more damage, while when discharged, its impact is weaker than that of a crowbar. The baton does not drain your body armor (the number of batteries is indicated in the lower right corner of the screen when the baton is in your hands).
The protagonist can carry up to three weapons, ranging from the stun baton and crowbar to Alyx's pistol.
