Monk

Diablo 1 Walkthrough  -> Monk

Deep in the mountains, there are special, secret monasteries. These aren't just any monasteries serving some spiritual purpose; in the places where the monk came from, they study secret martial arts. The monk doesn't use conventional weapons—swords, axes, maces—but staffs, which he uses to strike his opponents with lightning speed.

As the monk's stats suggest, he's a very versatile fighter, much like the bard. Playing him will be interesting for those who enjoy versatile characters:

Starting characteristics

Strength: 25

Dexterity: 25

Magic: 15

Vitality: 20

Maximum characteristics

Strength: 150

Dexterity: 150

Magic: 80

Vitality: 80

He doesn't wear traditional heavy armor—it hinders his movement. He prefers light cloaks that don't impede his movement. Compared to other classes, the monk falls somewhere between a warrior and an archer. At the same time, no other fighter is more agile in close combat.

The main focus when leveling a monk should be on agility. Survivability is a close second, as even though a monk is a nimble fighter, he'll still get hit. In terms of magical abilities, he's comparable to an archer, so it's up to you to decide whether to level his Mana or not. I wouldn't.
