Arcanum Walkthrough -> Thanatos Island
Near the landing site, you'll find a traveler's diary:
Go to the location - Earth Bridge. Then enter the forest and follow the left wall. Soon you'll find the exit and see a house. A very old man lives in the house; it soon turns out to be Nassredin.
As it turns out, Arronax is Nassredin's son, and he will indeed soon return to this world from the Void. Arronax hated Vendigroth, a city of great technologists, as he disdained technology. Soon, a war broke out between son and father, culminating in a full-blown war near Roseboro.
The father decided to create a giant portal and send his son into the Void. The Ring of Brodgar is the portal, albeit a sealed one. The elves feared Arronax's emergence from the Void and decided to throw the dwarves of the Blackrock Clan into the Void. The dwarves needed to build a super device that could permanently banish Arronax from all worlds.
Arronax, sensing danger, creates a shell in which he hides while his powers recover. The device could kill Arronax even in the shell. The dwarves eventually created this device. It is called the Vendigroth Device. Nasredin asks you to find the device and meet him at the Ring of Brodgar.
