Rogue

Diablo 1 Walkthrough  -> Archer (Rogue)

The Archer (Rogue) is my favorite character. You hold Shift and shoot at the area where you suspect enemies are, and you can kill them without even seeing them. Unlike Diablo 2, there are no arrows in the game, so the Archer becomes a cheap, ranged attack force.

The main emphasis, naturally and understandably, is on agility. Agility is the archer's strength. Agility increases bow damage, improves accuracy, and increases armor class.

Starting characteristics

Strength: 20

Dexterity: 30

Magic: 15

Vitality: 20

Maximum characteristics

Strength: 55

Dexterity: 250

Magic: 70

Vitality: 80

The archer's special skill is to disarm traps; it's not great, of course, but it's the most useful of all the special skills.

How to start playing: Move carefully through dungeons, shoot enemies from a distance, and don't let them get into close combat. If you're in danger, don't be lazy in retreating; the archer isn't particularly durable and can die very quickly if surrounded.

My recommendation for investing points is: 2 for Strength, 3 for Dexterity. Vitality, if you play correctly, won't be needed at first; you can level it up closer to level 10-12. Magic is also a moot point; you don't need to level it up at all on your first playthrough, unless you progress to higher difficulty levels, where you'll max out all your stats.
