Diablo 1 Walkthrough -> Warrior
If melee combat is your thing, the warrior is your class. In close combat, they are unmatched, their armor and durability allow them to stand tall against hordes of enemies, and their immense strength allows them to dispatch even the most powerful demons with a single blow.The primary focus is strength and survivability; war magic is usually neglected, considered the province of cowards. The brave, however, always charge head-on into the enemy.

A warrior's strength, as we know, is in strength. We train it well, and don't forget about agility to hit enemies, and survivability – to reduce the worry of accidentally running out of lives.
I recommend playing the first few levels cautiously, avoiding crowds of enemies and getting surrounded. If you do encounter large groups of the undead, retreat to the nearest door and position yourself behind it so that only one monster can approach you, while the rest of the crowd pushes behind it. And without moving (you can hold Shift) kill the enemies one by one.
Once you've got some gear and more cash, you can be more bold and take down hordes of enemies without retreating. That's assuming, of course, you've got a good survivability rating and a full health bottle slot.
As you approach the later levels (10 and below), I recommend getting items with magic resistance. The later levels are filled with monsters with magical attacks, making them difficult to fight. They retreat and teleport. Without good resistance, these levels will be very difficult to complete.
