Tristram villagers

Diablo 1 Walkthrough  -> Villagers

Tristram - You've come here in search of adventure; this is your starting and main point. Tristram was once a fully-fledged town, but due to the widespread horror that began, almost all the inhabitants abandoned the village, leaving only a few remaining. You'll interact with them throughout the game.

Here you can heal your wounds, receive new quests, sell found items, buy weapons, armor, magic items, etc. Attacks and spells are not allowed in the village.

Residents

Kain is the village sage. If you want to learn something about an unknown object, he'll tell you what you need. He's the keeper of knowledge, and he'll tell you all about any magical item you show him. Kain stands in the center of the village near the fountain. He'll also give you potential clues for several quests, so talk to him often.

Adria is your go-to person if you need to replenish your spell arsenal. She sells scrolls, books, staves, potions, and runes. She buys items for a quarter of their base price. She's quite difficult to find at first. You need to head upriver and cross the bridge after the fork. Then head northeast until you see a house. She also charges magical staves and can also give you a quest.

Griswold is the village blacksmith. You can buy weapons and armor from him or sell them to him, whether they're magical or not. When selling magical items, you should first identify them with Kain, otherwise Griswold will pay you significantly less. Like Adria, Griswold buys items for a quarter of the base price. His forge is located in the village square.

Ogdan - The tavern is a good source of news and gossip. It can be found north of the village square. The tavern owner is Ogdan. Talk to him and he might give you a quest, so don't ignore Ogdan too often.

Peppin is a healer. He heals you out of kindness for free when you emerge from a dungeon in bloody clothes. However, if you want to buy healing potions from him, you'll have to pay—after all, even healers need to eat. Peppin sells health restoration potions, full-healing potions, resurrection scrolls, healing scrolls, and elixirs. He doesn't buy anything.

Wirt, a one-legged boy, is another one who sells various items. He can help you if you can't find anything suitable at Griswold's. However, he'll charge 50 coins for just one inspection of the item he has (the only one). It might even be something you don't need. The item he has changes: either if you level up, or if you bought it, a new one will appear the next time you visit the village.

Complete Psycho - This seemingly crazy guy is located near three cows in the northeastern part of the city. It's as if he's dressed up in a cow costume for a carnival. Only after talking to him will you realize he did it for a reason. He'll give you a quest that will ultimately prove very useful. So don't forget about him.

Cilia - As soon as you descend into the Hive, a little girl, Cilia, will appear in town and tell you about her little problem. Relieve her of her troubles, and you'll be grateful. The girl is standing near a tree on the way to Adria.

Gillian
and Farnam are always willing to talk to you. Both can provide valuable information that clarifies quests. However, for the most part, you can simply ignore them. These two characters don't seem to represent anything of particular importance.
