Fallout 2 Walkthrough  → Modoc

On your way to  Vault City,  you'll come across the drought-ravaged farming town of Modoc. 

The main quest here is to establish Modoc's relationship with the inhabitants of Ghost Farm. To do this, talk to Joe; he'll tell you where the farm is and ask you to investigate what's going on there. After talking to the slugs (the farm's inhabitants) and examining the corpses on stakes, you can return to Joe. This is where Karl from  Den's story comes in handy . 

Ask Balthus about his missing son, Johnny, and head to the slugs. Johnny is playing with children near the underground reservoir. Inform the slug leader of Modoc's agreement to cooperate and ask about Johnny:

Return to Modoc to receive your reward – an upgraded leather jacket. 

Cornelius' watch is in the outhouse (editor's note: in the toilet). Climb down, grabbing the dynamite. Set the timer for 1 minute and climb out! After admiring the picturesque fallen organic mud, climb back up. Kill the rat and take the watch:

Don't go into the fenced-in house in the north—the owners will object, and besides, there's nothing waiting for you there except an angry female deathclaw. Also, don't pick up the coins in the well—it'll negatively impact your karma. If you have the skill, heal the brahmin's leg:

What to do with it is up to you. In Grisham's house, you can take on a quest to repel a wild dog attack on the brahmin. You can also find a spouse here. Cough cough :)
