Fallout 2 Walkthrough → SPECIAL (Main Stats)
SPECIAL is an abbreviation for a hero's primary stats in the game. Don't try to excel in everything, or your hero will come out mediocre and unremarkable.
It's better to choose a specific playstyle you want to master and boost only the stats necessary for that, removing or leaving unaltered less important ones. For example, a fighter hero should boost Perception, Endurance, and Agility. And an intellectual hero would benefit from boosting Intelligence and Charisma. And of course, high Luck is essential for any hero.
Strength - A measure of your character's physical strength. All weapons have a minimum strength requirement required to wield them. However, not meeting the required strength requirement does not prohibit the weapon's use, but it does impose additional penalties on the chance to hit a target (the greater the gap between your available strength and the required strength). Strength also determines
Secondary Stats - Max Load, Melee Damage, Hit Points.
Perception - this stat influences the secondary stat, Order of Actions (the higher the order of actions, the more likely you are to go first in combat). Perhaps the most important aspect of this stat is determining the maximum range at which your character can shoot effectively. The higher your Perception, the farther and more accurately you shoot.
High Perception is essential for sniper heroes.
Endurance - determines a character's constitution and overall health. Hit Points, Poison Resistance, Radiation Resistance, and Healing Level are all based on Endurance.
Stamina determines whether your character will be knocked down or rendered unconscious when hit by a critical hit.
Charisma - determines how physically attractive your character is and how well they know what to do and say in different situations. None of the secondary stats are based on Charisma.
Affects the number of companions in the party: 2 units of charisma - 1 companion.
Intelligence - is a measure of a character's mental strength. No Secondary Attributes are based on intelligence. However, intelligence determines the number of Skill Points gained with each level, making it one of the most important stats.
With high intelligence, additional branches appear in dialogues, and you can often convince your interlocutor of your rightness.
Agility - is a measure of a character's reaction speed. This stat is fundamental to Secondary Attributes—Armor Class and Action Points.
Luck - directly affects an important secondary stat - the chance of dealing critical damage (the most important stat in combat) and the ability to find many Special Encounters while traveling.
The initial value of each attribute is 5, which corresponds to the average level. Values can vary from 1 to 10, each of which corresponds to a verbal description:
1 - corpse
2 - bad
3 - average
4 - satisfactory
5 - average
6 - good
7 - very good
8 - awesome
9 - hero
10 - god
The choice of primary attributes determines the character's capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Changing them after the start of the game is very difficult, so choose wisely!
