Vault 13

Fallout 2 Walkthrough  → Vault 13

This vault is inhabited by sentient deathclaws—the result of an Enclave experiment to breed cheap and effective cannon fodder. Forced to serve the Enclave, they stormed the vault when the Enclave needed its inhabitants.

The purpose of Vault 13's experiment was precisely this: when the Enclave needed human DNA unaltered by mutagenic factors, they would find it in Vault 13. This, in fact, is the main reason for the Vault Dweller's expulsion—altered DNA was not supposed to reach Vault 13. This provoked a revolt by the inhabitants, and the overseer (editor's note: the overseer) lost his post.

Afterwards, at the request of Vault 13's inhabitants, the Brotherhood of Steel installed a computer monitoring all systems. Now that the deathclaws have fled, they have found a place where they will not be disturbed.

However, someone sabotaged the computer's voice module, and it stopped responding to commands. The Deathclaws were forced to steal livestock to survive.

Talk to Gruthar, the pack leader. He'll ask you to fix the computer, and you'll ask him for a GECK as payment. The voice module you bought from Eldridge in  New Reno will come in handy here  – just insert it into the computer.

The warehouse contains combat armor and parts from a tanker's navigation computer – a very important item. Goris, a special Deathclaw, lives in the library. He travels a lot, disguised as a human using a hood. He can be recruited. Before visiting San Francisco , we recommend visiting the Military Base .
