Communication

Communication is the process of exchanging information, ideas, feelings, or messages between two or more people or groups. It is a fundamental aspect of human interaction and plays an important role in various areas of life, including interpersonal relationships, business, education and culture.

I wanted to write about communication and information transfer in Eve. How it happens at the moment, and compare it with Planetside 2.

Eve Online. start in the game

After registering in the game, you have two chats, this is a factional one: Matar, Amarr, Gallente, Caldar - it will be until you join a corporation. And a help chat, you can’t leave it for 30 days, depending on the language in which Eve was installed or the region of residence.

Messages

The game has a system of personal messages between players and a newsletter for those who subscribed to it. Also, various kinds of notifications come there.

Fleet

Having joined the fleet, or created your own, you get an additional fleet chat for communication between all its participants.

Corporation and Alliance

After joining a corporation or creating your own, your faction chat disappears, but a corporate one appears, and if the corporation is in the Alliance, then there is also an Alliance chat for communication between members of corporations inside, Ali.

Chat channels

A huge number of chat channels in the game, on various topics, created by other players, both public and closed, by interests: intel, a chat channel in which you live between all the inhabitants of the wh, nulls, lows, etc. Through them, you can transmit anything you want. Ship equipment, information about items, contracts, reports on the murder of capsulers, and the names of systems by simply dragging the desired text or object into the chat.

No voice communication

Due to the fact that Eve is an old game 20+ years old, it completely lacks voice communication, through a microphone. Therefore, third-party applications are usually used, such as: Discord, TeamSpeak, Mumble and others. Often corporations in WH and Nulls, ask their members to be in the fleet when online, and in the voice chat in Discord, due to faster communication than through chat channels and text. When you are in the fleet, you can quickly warp in or you can fly to someone to help without problems. Well, you can see the teams in the fleet, who to shoot, where to fly, etc.

By and large, voice communication is needed if you are actively doing something with the fleet, or you want to talk to someone, or check new members of the corporation there, an interview, etc. Without voice, you can more or less play Eve too.

Planetside 2. Start in the game

When registering a new player, you get all the functionality of Eve for text communication, except for creating your own chat channels. And extensive voice communication built into the game becomes available, without discords, teamspeaks and mumbles:

1) Proximity channel - voice communication with those who are near your character. Be it one tank, transport or just a randomly standing guy:

2) Squad channel - this is a voice chat for communication within a squad consisting of a maximum of 12 people. For coordination between participants and more targeted actions. In Eve, this is a fleet, roughly speaking, which can have up to 250 capsuleers. In one specific fleet of Eve, the task of voice communication is solved using Discord, or if the fleet is large, then TeamSpeak.

3) Commander channel - when you are the main in a squad, you have the ability to use communication between all other squad leaders on the continent, the home faction: New Conglomerates, Terran Republic or Vanu Sovereignty. It's like voice communication between all active EVE fleet commanders within individual factions: Gallente, Caldar, Amarr and Matar.

Often in Planetside, they ask for reinforcements to a particular base via commander communication, and also coordinate attacks/defenses within factions. Sometimes people on beer ask for reinforcements to a base, and they are often sent to hell via commander communication, or blocked. And sometimes, you ask for reinforcements via communication and in 5 minutes 50+ allies are already running with you.

In Discord, you can organize voice communication within one EVE squad/fleet, but you cannot solve the problem of communication between commanders/fleet commanders of several fleets and squads. Therefore, for such things, if I'm not mistaken, they use Mumble and TeamSpeak in Eve (need to check).

There is another interesting feature: you can ping reinforcements to the base of each squad leader on the continent map:

And perhaps your faction will arrive in full force, specifically to this point:

4) Platoon channel - a squad is 12 people, 4 squads form a Platoon - 48 people. A more powerful and coordinated army, with 4 commanders. This voice channel helps to communicate with each other within one Platton.

4) Faction channel - voice communication within your faction: New conglomerates, Terran Republic and Vanu Sovereignty. Similar to the chat channel in Eve factions: Amari, Matar, Caldar, Gallente, before you go to the corporation, but only communication occurs by voice.

What other differences do faction mechanics have between the games: In Planetside you can only use ships, equipment and weapons of your faction, and if you shoot at the backs of your comrades, your weapon is blocked for 15 minutes and you can't shoot at all.

5) The unit channel is a corporate voice chat or Alliance chat for voice communication. In Planetside, units can be created within your faction, and by capturing bases with a unit, you passively receive resources from the captured place, which you can use to buy various goodies - tanks, discounts on equipment, orbital strikes, "citadel" shields.

Voice chat for a unit (corporation, alliance, coalition, bloc) in Eve is solved by means of Discord, TeamSpeak and Mumble, depending on your size. In Planetside 2, some units specifically switch to voice via Discord to protect themselves from espionage.
